Hi there! I’m Karla, a graduate-level counseling intern at CALM Counseling.

As a neurodivergent, chronically-ill woman living in a large body, I know what it is like to live on the outskirts of “typical” society (if there indeed is such a thing!). Through therapy, I have found a way to dispel the noise of the “shoulds” and “musts,” and have curated a life that prioritizes happiness, comfort, and supportive accommodation. I hope to do the same for others in my vocation as a therapist.

My specific therapeutic areas of interest include neurodivergence, disordered eating, and transitioning into adulthood. I am particularly interested in working with adults who were diagnosed late in life with autism and/or ADHD, as I know from experience how healing it can be to build relationships with someone who genuinely understands the way you move through the world.

I use a person-centered, relational approach, which means that I do not have an outside agenda for your growth: you set the goals, pace, and direction. My primary goal is to build a strong, affirming, positive relationship that provides the safest place from which you can grow on your own terms. I see the world through a systemic and interconnected lens, and will help you identify patterns, understand your motivations, and pave the way for positive change.

If any of the above resonates for you, I would love to work together. I am currently offering low-cost individual therapy over telehealth in Texas.
