How to Successfully Throw Out Your New Year’s Resolution

Oh no! Its mid-January and you haven’t started your resolution…well, great! Here are some tips to continue to NOT start it, because frankly, the idea of sticking with a New Year’s resolution might go against other important improvements you might be working towards — like self-compassion.  For many of us, establishing a more compassionate stance within ourselves is the hardest type of resolution.

The need for self-compassion intensifies around times like the first of the year, because so many are being harsh on themselves. When the people we love are being mean to themselves we can tend to assume we need to do that too. Please, don’t! Here are some tips to begin to build just a little more self-compassion in your life.

Tip 1:

Take a look around and notice all the things you are ALREADY DOING. Giving yourself the space to acknowledge all that you are carrying is a start to building space for compassion.

Tip 2:

Spend some time (not a prescriptive amount) with people you love. This will help you stay connected to your worth. They don’t love you because you made a goal to get to the gym more.

Tip 3:

Go outside or sit on the couch and relax. Taking a minute to just relax and not “do” is critical to building more self-compassion. You aren’t worthy because you do. You’re just worthy.
